Overview
LessonCrumb is a browser extension and web app that helps you track progress through YouTube playlists. We collect only the data needed to deliver that functionality. We do not sell your data, run ads, or share your information with third parties except as described below.
Data we collect
Extension (no sign-in required)
- YouTube playlist and video IDs you add as courses
- Which videos you have marked as watched
- Estimated time you have spent watching each course
- Your focus-mode preference
This data is stored exclusively in your browser using chrome.storage.local and never leaves your device unless you sign in.
Web app and optional sign-in
- Google account info — your name, email address, and profile photo, provided by Google when you sign in via Firebase Authentication.
- Course data — the same playlist/video data described above, synced to your private Firestore document so it is accessible across devices.
How we use your data
- To display your course list and progress on the dashboard and in the extension
- To sync your progress across devices when you are signed in
- To resume playback at the correct video when you open a course
We do not use your data for advertising, analytics sold to third parties, or any purpose beyond operating LessonCrumb.
Third-party services
LessonCrumb uses Firebase (Google LLC) for authentication and cloud storage. Your data is stored in Firebase under your user ID and is not accessible to other users. Firebase's own privacy policy applies to data processed by their infrastructure.
The extension reads YouTube page content (playlist titles, video titles, durations, thumbnails) solely to power the in-page UI. We do not transmit this data to any server.
Data retention and deletion
Your cloud data is retained as long as your account exists. To delete your data, sign in to the web app, export a backup if you wish, then contact us at the address below and we will delete your Firestore document and Firebase account. Extension-only data can be cleared at any time through your browser's extension storage settings.
Children's privacy
LessonCrumb is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of LessonCrumb after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
